• The quality of water supplied to the town is constantly monitored to ensure that all regulatory requirements are met

Industrial Wastewater Treatment

• The Mill's wastewater goes through several stages of treatment, including mechanical and biological ones
• Local storm drains treatment systems are active

Domestic Wastewater Treatment

• The Mill receives and provides treatment of domestic wastewater from the town
• Separate wastewater treatment facilities that are not associated with industrial effluents are active

Projects and Initiatives

• The Company continuously collects data, analyzes and implements initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint
• Since 2018 we have been operating polymer station to improve the wastewater treatment system

Atmospheric Air Emissions

• The Mill operates gas purification units to reduce the amount of air emissions (scrubbers, electrostatic precipitators, bag filters, etc.)
• The Company implemented the Activities Plan in case of announcing unfavorable weather conditions

System of Combustion Volatile Sulfur Compounds

• Since 2007 we have been implementing the best available technology for accumulation and combustion of sulfur-containing gases, used at advanced pulp and paper mills to reduce total emissions and odor.

Noise Reduction

• Measures are taken to reduce noise from its sources – installation of noise isolating and absorbing elements, silencers, as well as changing location of noise sources

Projects

• The Mill allocates necessary funds for upgrading gas purifying and processing equipment to reduce air emissions
• Process control systems are being automated

Landfill

• The Company has its own landfill for waste of hazard classes IV and V (low-hazardous and non-hazardous wastes), entered in the state register of waste disposal facilities
• The landfill was built using the best available technologies supported by the affirmative opinion of the State Environmental Expert Evaluation and the facility was put into operation in 2016

Waste Disposal and Neutralization

• Wastes of hazard classes I-IV are transferred to the third-party companies for neutralization and disposal
• The Mill has concluded contracts with licensed organizations in the field of waste management

Separate Waste Collection

• We Mill has implemented and constantly improves the process of separate waste collection of various types of waste and recyclables at the mill
• The Mill participates in the ecological and charity project for collection of plastic caps called Kryshechki DobroTy (translated from Russian as “caps for acts of kindness”)

Projects

• The Mill’s purpose is a closed-loop economy, so we are looking for the ways to collect and recycle secondary materials and initiate projects to reduce the amount of waste disposed at the landfill

Industrial Emissions Monitoring

• The Mill has an accredited industrial sanitary testing laboratory
• Monitoring air emissions from certain sources, as well as measuring efficiency of gas cleaning equipment are performed by laboratory technicians

Atmospheric Air Quality

• There is a fixed air sampling station for aimed to determine the content of emissions. The station operates according to the agreed schedule. The tests are performed by the Mill's employees in the laboratory outside the production facility
• Laboratory technicians also conduct weekly atmospheric air sampling at five location points in the town of Svetogorsk (fixed route control)

Wastewater Quality Control

• The Mill’s accredited laboratory and the third-party laboratories constantly control discharges of pollutants into water bodies
• The Mill has also introduced methods of continuous monitoring and control of stream flows arising from certaing production facilities and workshops ensuring timely response to possible changes

Natural Waters

• The accredited industrial sanitary testing laboratory conducts sampling and analysis of natural waters upstream and downstream the wastewater discharge locations
• The industrial sanitary testing laboratory cooperates with other laboratories to monitor the impact of the Mill’s waste disposal facility on water resources

Determining Substances within Operating Areas

• Safety represents one of the Company's priorities. Therefore, the accredited industrial sanitary testing laboratory controls working conditions of employees by conducting air evaluation of the operating areas to define polluting substances, as well as conducts analysis of physical factors (noise level, vibration, electro-magnetic radiation, microclimate, etc.)
